Unlike its competitors, the E-8000 system features a seamless integration with Shimano’s Di2 electronic drivetrain, which allows the main battery pack to power both the motor and rear derailleur. Generally speaking, those numbers are very similar to the e-mountain bike systems by Bosch and Specialized. It uses a a 250-watt electric motor which produces 70 newton meters of torque, and is powered by a 504 watt-hour battery pack. It is considered a Class 1 electric assist system, which means it tops out at 20 miles per hour. Shimano’s STePS (Shimano Total Electric Power System) E8000 is considered an XT level product, and Shimano has introduced an XT branded crank arm and four-piston caliper to go with it.
